Project Background

Since Fall 2023, I have been working on multiple series of experimental risograph prints. All of these riso prints were created with a MH9450U duplicator printer.
The riso combines screen printing and copier technology to create unique duo-color prints. Riso printing does not use CMYK, but requires manual color seperation.
Each color of an image must be scanned onto individual drums and layered on top of one another.
To create risograph prints, I take one of my pieces of photography and upload it to photoshop. Once in photoshop, I do any edits to saturation and levels, then I use a color profile to seperate the colors into their specific riso hex codes. Taking those files, I scan them onto the riso and create my masters which I use to print.
I make 2, 3, and 4 color prints. While 2 color prints can take as little as an hour start to finish, 3 and 4 color prints are created over days. Ink must dry, iterations of color must be made, and the final image must be registered. The more photorealistic, the longer the prints take to create.
